Come In, Fox
It starts with a little idea…
Parent“Who lives in your story?”
Elsie (child)“Fox. That’s his house.”
Parent“Who’s coming round?”
Elsie (child)“Mouse! Rabbit too. They’re wet.”
Parent“What do they need?”
Elsie (child)“Soup. And fox has soup too.”
Fox wishes someone would visit his little house. Soon there is a knock, and another, and another. But who will come in last?

A knock at the tree
Fox had a house inside a tree. “I wish a friend would visit me.” The rain went TAP. The wind went WOO. Then came a knock. Who? Who? Who?
Come in, Mouse
Fox opened up. There stood small Mouse, with dripping ears outside the house. “Come in, Mouse. Come in and stay.” Fox put his little coat away.
Come in, Rabbit
Rabbit came hopping, hop, hop, hop. Her soggy ears went flop, flop, flop. “Come in, Rabbit. Come in, too.” Then came a knock. Who? Who? Who?
A place for Hedgehog
Hedgehog stood small beside the tree. “Is there a little place for me?” “Come in, Hedgehog. Here you go.” Fox moved a stool. “We’ll make a row.”
Soup for four
Fox brought some bowls. Mouse brought some bread. “I like it here,” small Rabbit said. They stirred the soup. They passed it round. Then WHOOSH! The wind made such a sound.
The door went click
A gust blew leaves across the floor. Fox stepped outside to pull the door. It shut with CLICK. Fox stood outside. He knocked, then knocked. “It’s cold!” he cried.
Who is there?
Mouse heard a knock. Then there were two. A shadow filled the window, too. “Who’s there?” they called. “Who can it be?” A soft voice answered, “Only me.”
Come in, Fox
They opened up. Fox stood in rain. “Come in, Fox. Come in again.” They moved the stools and made a space. A happy smile lit up his face.
Room for four
Four friends sat warm. Four bowls stood bright. The rain tapped softly through the night. Fox smiled and tucked his tail away. “There’s room for all of us to stay.”
